Who We Are and Our Qualifications

About - Independent Test Services - its_buildingIndependent Test Services was formed by Ken Archibald in 1996. After spending the first half of his career designing wheels for Hayes-Lemmerz, he struck out on his own to fill a void for a quality independent wheel test facility in the backyard of the Big Three OEM’s and thus Independent Test Services was born. What started out as a wheel testing lab with 4 fatigue testing machines has grown over the last 20 years to include over 18 radial stations, 4 cornering machines, 2 impact machines, 3 Biaxial Fatigue machines, environmental testing lab, fastener testing, uniformity testing, calibration services and wheel test equipment manufacturing.

In 2022, ownership of ITS was transferred to Kyle Archibald who runs the daily operations while Ken continues his work with the SAE Wheel Committee and consulting as an expert witness on wheel forensic lawsuits.  With a combined 40+ years in the wheel design and wheel testing business, Ken and Kyle have created a place where all of your wheel testing needs can be met.

Ken and Kyle both spend time working with the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) Wheel Committee helping to advance wheel test specifications used by wheel manufacturers around the world. In 2021 Kyle was named the Convener overseeing the wheels working group for the International Organization of Standardization (ISO) where he works with international experts to publish relevant and current wheel related standards. From passenger car to truck and bus, wheel finishing and fastener testing, we stay informed and at the forefront of the wheel testing market.
